Napoli has appointed Antonio Conte as their new head coach.
The 54 year old has signed a three year contract with the Serie A outfit.
The former Juventus, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur manager will join Napoli this summer. He is taking over from Francesco Calzona who became the temporary head coach for the remainder of the season following the sacking of Walter Mazzarri in February.
Mazzarri had just recently replaced Rudi Garcia but was unable to change the fortunes of Napoli who have had to endure a hugely disappointing title defence.
The club finished in the tenth position in the league, 41 points behind Inter Milan who won this season's Serie A title.
Napoli won their first league title in 33 years in 2023 under the guidance of Luciano Spalleti who parted ways with the club that summer so he could become the Italy national team head coach. Antonio Conte is Napoli's fourth head coach since his departure.
Antonio Conte's last managerial job was at Tottenham Hotspur which he left in March 2023. He has won league titles with Juventus Chelsea and Inter Milan.
Antonio Conte won the Supercoppa Italia twice with Juventus in 2012 and 2013, as well as an FA Cup with Chelsea in the 2017/18 campaign.
He was also in charge of the Italy national team between 2014 and 2016.
The club president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, made the following statement;
I’m so proud that Antonio Conte is Napoli’s new coach. Antonio is a top coach and a leader, so I’m convinced that we’ll be able to rebuild the foundations in the way that we need to following the conclusion of the cycle that led us to Scudetto glory last year after many years at the top of Italian football. An important, new chapter in Napoli’s history gets under way today.
Antonio Conte also made the following statement;
Napoli is a club of huge importance on the international stage. I’m happy and excited by the idea of taking my seat in the Napoli dugout. I can certainly promise one thing: I’ll give my all to develop the team and the club. I’m fully committed to the task at hand, as are my staff.
