Yesterday night, at about 9:00pm, a sweeping operation was done by the Uganda police force in a bid to crack down on bars.
After a tipoff that many bars were operating illegaly, the police decided to do this random operation to arrest whoever they found in the bars.
La Venti, a famous bar and louge in Najjera was one of the hotspots of the operation with 22 arrests made which was revealed by Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Area deputy police spokesperson in a press statement today.
Some eye witnesses said that the police surrounded the entire lounge in order to arrest everone inside but some escaped by climbing the fence at the back and abandoning their cars which police said were towed away and put in their custody.
Now the presidential press secretary, Mr. Don Wanyama has also revealed that the arrested party goers will have to go into a mandatory quarantine at their own cost and may face court charges later.
He also said that some of the people that were trying to escape are nursing broken limbs, bruises and that one case was admitted in a hospital in Najjera yesterday having several broken ribs and interestingly, the police are waiting for him to stabilise before he checks himself into quarantine and after court.
