Bartenders in Uganda hold press conference.

The Bartender Association (BAU) has today held meeting asking the government to open the bars.

Their leaders today told the press that many of them are now poor and cannot afford to take care of themselves and their families.

" They have opened most places. Cinemas are open and people are now able to hold big weddings and events. They have brought the vaccine. Why aren't they opening us yet?"

Bars were closed on 18th March 2020 which marks a year  in 2021.

Bars in Uganda employ over 700 people from waitresses to bar managers, to cleaners etc.

Due to the delayed close, many have lost their jobs and are finding it hard to provide for themselves.

Although big bars are open in hiding, some have permanently closed like Nyondo Bar Entebbe due to failure to pay rent.

The president keeps pushing the opening of bars and he says it is because they will fail to follow certain SOPs such as social distancing.

We hope that the required people will listen to their pleas and find a way to help them
