Singer turned politician Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi better known as Bobi Wine has joined the rest of Ugandans to mourn the unforseen death of Humphrey Mayanja.
For starters, Humphrey Mayanja, the elder sibling of the singing trio of Jose Chameleone, Weasel Manizo and Pallaso was announced dead on Saturday morning, March 30.
The heartbreaking announcement came through a social media post by Jose Chameleone, also addressed as Mayanja Joseph. The singer's post had deceased's picture with only his name and tearful emoji.
Jose Chameleone's brother's death prompted an outpouring of sympathy from Ugandan notable figures and fans of the deceased.
Bobi Wine, also the National Unity Platform president first took to his socials and sent out his condolences to the Mayanja family. He asked the creator strengthen as they grieve the loss of their beloved one.
"Just learned about the untimely death of our brother Humphrey Mayanja. My thoughts go to the Mayanja family and to all his friends. May the almighty God strengthen you in this challenging period. Rest in perfect peace brother.," he posted on his X handle formerly known as Twitter.
Later in the day, the self proclaimed ghetto president took some minutes off his time and passed by Humphrey's vigil in Lweza.
Bobi Wine who was accompanied by his close friends such as Mike wine, Lewis Rubongoya to mention but a few were warmly welcomed by Jose Chameleone.
While speaking to the mourners, Bobi Wine described the deceased as his longtime friend who will forever be missed.
He went ahead ask Ms. Prossy Mayanja ( Chameleone's mother)to keep strong in this difficult times especially after the demise of his beloved son.
What caused Humphrey Mayanja's death
It has been reported that Humphrey succumbed to cancer at the Mulago based Uganda Cancer Institute
Humphrey’s health struggles were first noticed publicly in July 2023, shortly after his arrival in the US from Uganda.
Thereafter he underwent extensive surgery and was subsequently diagnosed with stage four colon cancer at the beginning of March, 2023 as revealed by his father, Gerald Mayanja.
The family later decided to bring him back to Uganda, to receive palliative care in familiar surroundings.
In a social media post from 2023, Humphrey shared a harrowing account of his health journey, recounting the moment he realised something was amiss.
“This is not a pleasant picture. I didn’t take it. But while at Schiphol Airport, I kept falling asleep and waking up to intermittent fevers,” he wrote.
Describing the debilitating pain he experienced, Humphrey recalled seeking medical attention and undergoing surgery to address his condition.
