With the year left with only a month to end, parents, learners, school owners and other role players in the Education sector are anxiously waiting for the re-openning of schools in January 2022 with mixed reactions. This is because as we speak now, the new Covid-19 variant Omnicron is growing at light speed in South Africa and many countries in Europe.
While appearing on NTV morning breeze, state minister for Education (Primary level) Hon. Joyce Kaducu assured the nation that regardless of all going on in the nation and across the globe, schools are bound to re-open come January 2022.
"It's one thing bout having a clear date for the re-openning of schools but what should be clear is that come January, all schools shall re-open accross the country." Said Minister Kaducu. Asked aout how prepared the ministry is, given there's news moving around indicating the ministry is yet to come up with a clear plan yet January is just a month away, the minister said Education is a shared responsibility.
"Education is a shared responsibility. We've been running a lot of consultations in terms of Human Resource, the infrastructure and seing that everybody from the teachers, parents and the learners all share the same responsibility. The teachers need to be oriented on how they're going to take on the new curriculum."
The minister however noted that fir the rumors of another lockdown coming due to the Omnicron variant which is taking shape in South Africa, yet the country still allows returnees from the region, she said that they as a ministry believe in Science and until the scientists have said something, the ministry is focised on re-openning schools come January next year.
