Alex Muhangi of comedy store is one of the most notable comedians we have in Uganda. Having started an entire platform for different comedians, his experience in the entertainment sector is totally unmatched and commendable. Comedy has been changing over time however, could be due to the rise of different comedians and their different styles.
Alex Muhangi however admits that a couple of local standup comedians thrive on vulgarity, something that the Comedy Store is trying so much to eliminate. According to him, comedy can be good and funny even without vulgarity.
On Monday, Comedy Store UG launched the Comedy Store Foundation fundraising concert which will have big name artistes like Diamond Platnumz, Nameless, and various Ugandan stars will be performing.
The concert, which is scheduled for 14th July 2023 will look forward to raising funds to help the foundation achieve its goals as the year unfolds further. While speaking to the media, Alex Muhangi was asked to comment on the issue of comedians being vulgar and often begging for money from the audience during comedy shows.
Muhangi mentioned that sometimes, the audience dictates the kind of content a comedian does because people react more excitedly when dirty skits are made which is not the case when a comedian is doing clean content.
“When a comedian does a dirty joke, the audience laughs more than when he is doing clean content,” Alex said
He, however, emphasized that they are working hard to ensure that vulgarity does not end up ruining comedy as strict measures have been put in place to limit such scenarios.
