Nakawa Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza has issued a warrant for the arrest of Martha Nkwanzi Katanga, the daughter of the late businessman Henry Katanga. The arrest is related to allegations that Nkwanzi destroyed evidence pertaining to her father's murder on November 2, 2023, at their family residence in Mbuya, Kampala.
The warrant was issued following a request from chief prosecutor Jonathan Muwaganya, who expressed frustration over Nkwanzi's failure to respond to three court summonses. Despite claiming to be an outpatient receiving care at Rosewell Hospital, Muwaganya argued that there was no justification for her refusal to appear in court.
"It is clear that she (Nkwanzi) is somewhere at home and not hospitalized. The [medical] report that is being based on [by the defense lawyers] is dated 28 November 2023," Muwaganya asserted.
Notably, Muwaganya emphasized that since Nkwanzi is not undergoing postpartum care, her arrest is warranted, and she should be presented before the court to address the allegations against her.
Simultaneously, Molly Katanga, the widow of Henry Katanga, has been served with a fourth set of criminal summonses. The court determined that she is still hospitalized and receiving treatment for injuries allegedly sustained during her husband's murder.
As for the three suspects already in remand, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) disclosed that police inquiries are ongoing. Due to the pending review of the case files by the High Court, the DPP argued against admitting the suspects on bail at this stage. The legal proceedings continue to unfold as the investigation into the high-profile.
