ARUA, UGANDA | His Royal Highness Phillip Olarker Rauni III, the King of Alur Kingdom, has appointed David Rupiny, a respected former journalist from Radio Paidha FM and Uganda Radio Network, as the kingdom's new communications director.
Rupiny, who previously established Radio Rainbow in Nebbi and has worked with various media outlets, also served as communications manager at the Uganda Investment Authority.
In addition to Rupiny’s appointment, Counsel Richard Adubango Olama has been named the Attorney General of Alur Kingdom.
The announcement was made in a press statement signed by Emilio Odongo, the kingdom’s minister of general duties, on Thursday. The statement noted, “This is to inform the general public and the subjects of His Royal Highness, Olarker Phillip Rauni III, that the following persons have been appointed to serve the Kingdom…”
Expressing his gratitude, Rupiny told Uganda Radio Network that he feels honored and humbled by the king's decision. He acknowledged the significant responsibilities ahead, emphasizing the goal of creating a strong communications framework for the kingdom.
“In the first 100 days, we aim to establish visible structures and a functional communications and stakeholder engagement strategy that outlines our key focus areas,” he added.
Community member David Sabbity congratulated both Olama and Rupiny on their appointments, expressing confidence in their ability to meet the expectations of the king and the subjects.
Journalist Mike Rwothumio from Zombo district praised the king's choice of a communications director with a background in journalism, encouraging Rupiny to foster good relationships with local journalists to ensure clear public communication.
These appointments follow a cabinet reshuffle last year when the Alur King named his cabinet members and royal envoys to various cultural institutions in Uganda and abroad, aiming to advocate for the kingdom's subjects. The new cabinet members, who will serve a 10-year tenure, include:
