Government Bans Ugandan Musicians from Performing in Schools

Government Bans Ugandan Musicians from Performing in Schools

Kampala, Government through the ministry of Education has banned all Ugandan musicians from performing in schools across the nation.

In a letter addressed to the general public, the ministry expressly banned artists/musicians from staging performances in Primary schools and high schools but did not have mention of the universities. The reasons for the ban include immorality that is being promoted by the so called artists through their dress code and dances.

The ministry got to know that kids in the schools were being morally degraded after the events of 10th June 2022 that saw students of Lubiri High School doing jigi jigi inside the school bus of Midland High School. It is based on this viral social media clip that the permanent secretary of the ministry of Education and Sports, Dr. Jane Egau saw it fit to halt artists who she thinks are responsible for spreading this immoral behavior.

Sheebah's comments are also to balme

According to some entertainment analysts, local musician, Sheebah Karungi is to blame for the decision the ministry took because of the recent remarks she made when she was asked about why she is spoiling young children in the country with her indecent dress code.

Sheebah clearly stated that she is not responsible for the upbringing of various children who consume her content, be it the music videos or live stage performances. She said that it is a moral obligation of the parents of these children to ensure that they are consuming the right content.

This was in reaction to Sarah Opendi, the Tororo Woman Member of Parliament's plea to the Education ministry on the floor of Parliament last month(July). Sarah begged the ministry to find all ways of banning artists from performing in schools because of the way they dress and dance infront of the students. She went ahead to state that even nursery kids of these days are copying all this and becoming spoilt at a very young age.

Does the ban also include Gospel musicians

The poor gospel musicians who are always dressed from head to toe and dancing like logs have also been dragged into this. I mean, they don't dress indecently and particularly do not dance (behave like tree logs). The ban not only touches the likes of Sheebah but has also spoilt things for the likes of Levixone and Pastor Wilson Bugembe.

Other well behaved musicians such as Rema Namakula, David Lutalo, Chris Evans and the likes who always make it a point to be decent in dressing and dancing have also not been spared and I also wonder how exactly this category is spoiling our children.
