Imagine your daughter/son/niece/nephew is reporting to back to school on 10th/January as allocated by the president and he or she studies from Kabale but you stay in Kampala. After finalizing with the school authorites, it's already curfew time and no cars are allowed to travel! You see how you find yourself sleeping in your child's dormitory?
Well, this seems to have been sorted by the government, as earlier communicated by the minister of Transport and Works, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala while he was addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre.
The Minister started by directing all private transport operators to get designated stages where they will be loading learners and also cautioned the learners not to board roadside public transport means, as these would not be accounted for in case something bad happens to them.
He went on to inform the public that a decision was reached with the prime minister to lift curfew during the reporting week to allow a smooth reporting of learners to schools. "I want to inform the public and the media that we have agreed with the prime minister that during the week of return of students, there'll be no curfew hours because you may find that a parent has driven to Ntare, to Mwiri and for some reason he/she has been delayed there and they're coming back late and they're faced with curfew. In that way they'll be forced to rush so to avoid that, curfew has been removed to allow smooth movement of children from their homes to their schools." Said the minister.
The schools are set to fully re-open on Monday 10th/January/2022, after being closed for close to two years after the outbreak of covid-19.
