While appearing before the parliamentary committee on issues regarding security, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his team denied being involved in the rearrest of MPs Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana. "It's not an institutitional position that police should mishandle anyone whether during arrest or during interogation." Said IGP Ochola.
It's however a defeating statement from the IGP, given that after the arrest of Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana, it was confirmed that they were detained at the investigations center in Kireka, which is an organ of the police.
Kampala woman MP who also doubles as the lawyer of the two NUP members Hon. Shamim Malende was however not contented with the IGP's submission and was asking a number of questions.
"Why was I given my client Hon Ssegirinya after getting bail and then after the police chased after me and grabbed him? Were those people arrested and charged?" Asked Hon. Malende. While the issue of those who manhandled the MPs remained unanswered, the chances of them getting bail also seem futile as it was confirmed toady that their case has to await the chief judge to preside over it.
