JUST IN: Uganda Musicians Association extends General Elections date
    • May 21, 2022 • 3 years ago

Its just less than 48 hours to Monday 23rd May 2022, the date that was scheduled to conduct the UMA - Uganda Musicians Associations General Elections.

In a rather fast change of events, the Associations Electoral Committee has announced a change in dates from the earlier communicated date to 6th June 2022.

According to Jeff Ekongot, the Electoral Committee chairman, the change in dates is as a result of complaints from some of the members. "UMA policy board offered guidance on the decision and recommended that the members need more time to understand how the voting is going to be conducted" Jeff said during a press conference on Saturday morning.

The change in dates is constitutional under the UMA Constitution Section 8 (G). When contacted about the matter, UMA Policy board Chairman Mesach Semakula had this to say,

"Voter education is a strong pillar of democracy and as such should be given enough time. Voters need to reach polling day when they understand how the process is going to be conducted"

The policy board team confirms that through the media and various digital platforms, the voter education campaign is ongoing and various activities shall be conducted to engage members towards Election day.
