The mood at the Independence grounds in Kololo have been high since morning, despite the rain that began early morning. The highly anticipated election of the speaker of the 11th parliament and their deputy went down today.
The race has been between a former boss and the deputy. Kamuli woman MP Rebecca Kadaga who was the speaker of the 10th parliament was contesting i dependently against her former deputy, Jacob Oulanyah, having lost flag barer to the latter.
By the end of the vote counting, Oulanyah had emerged victorious with 310 votes while Kadaga managed to get 197 votes. The opposition was also represented by Kira Municipality Member of Parliament Hon Ssemujju Nganda of FDC. He however got only 15 votes, despite the fact that FDC has 30 members of parliament.
The election had the newly sworn in president H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the chief justice Alphonse Owiny Dolo. What's next for Hon Kadaga? We'll keep you posted.
