Police is today Tuesday 4th January 2022 set to charge government critic, poet and novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija with offensive communication. During a press conference at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Charles Twiine, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson said that the detectives had completed their investigations on Rukira. https://twitter.com/KakwenzaRukira/status/1475497247089598471?s=20

Twiine said that on December 24th 2021, Kakwenza through his Twitter handle abused President Museveni and did the same to Lt Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First son and Commander of Land Forces on December 26th 2021 and in both instances, he used derogatory, abusive and belittling words without any purpose of legitimate communication.

“A civilized person cannot mention those words here.  It is so hurting; it is very bad. Abusing has no legitimate platform even socially in our different cultures and even legally. Even the most known opposition politicians here have not used some of these words,” Twiine told journalists.

Kakwenza who was in October 2021 named the International Writer of Courage at the PEN Pinter Prize ceremony is expected to be produced in court today afternoon since he was taken into custody on December 28th 2021.
