Uganda and the rest of the world are counting dwn hours to the new year and much as the biggest new year's eve were banned, thnk to Covid and her siblings, the enjoyments gang is busy plam=nning on where they're going to "chill with the big boys" as they usher in 2022.
Among the traditonal norms of celebrating the end of a year and beginning of a new one, Ugandans tend to light up old automobile tyres in the middle of the roads or any other gazetted area. This is a culture that has stood the taste of time, even when the world seems to be growing day by day.
The Minister for Transport and Works, Gen. Katumba Wamala has however warned all those planning to light up old tyres that they'll be arrested. He passed the warning while giving his end of year speech.
"Ugandans are fond of celebrating the new year by lighting fires on the roads while using old car tyres. I want to pass a warning that this is a crime now and if you're found doing thst, you can find yourself behind bars for three years.I hope that my call lans on responsible ears and that we all enjoy responsibly." Said Gen. Katumba.
That basically means we'll have to patiently await the president's address at 8:00pm while we pray in all languages that he sticks to his words and re-opens the economy as earlier promised. Who knows, maybe we'll have the chance of re-lighting fireworks.
