MTN Uganda has expanded its signature employee volunteerism initiative, “21 Days of Y’ello Care,” to a special 30-day edition this year in celebration of the MTN Group’s 30th anniversary. This initiative, now titled "30 Days of Y’ello Care," was launched at Kansanga Seed Secondary School.
The campaign is themed “Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow: Education for Rural and Remote Communities” and it's aims are to address educational disparities in underserved regions of Uganda.
The extension to 30 days shows MTN's long-standing commitment to social responsibility and community development. Since its inception in 2007, the Y’ello Care program has enabled MTN employees to actively participate in community service projects.
This year’s Y’ello Care program's theme emphasizes the importance of education as a foundation for future leadership, particularly focusing on rural and remote communities that face significant educational challenges.
At Kansanga Seed Secondary School, MTN staff, in collaboration with various stakeholders, have kicked off activities that include improving school infrastructure, providing learning materials, and conducting digital literacy workshops.
These efforts aim to bridge the gap in educational resources and opportunities between urban and rural areas.
The Y’ello Care program also supports other community groups across Uganda. For instance, the Tussakimu Women’s Group in Rubaga Division received equipment and digital tools to enhance their tailoring business and financial inclusion efforts.
This is part of a bigger strategy to empower local entrepreneurs by providing necessary resources and training to boost their businesses.
The campaign's reach extends to other regions with similar initiatives. In Mukono District, MTN Uganda supported the Mulungi Confectionary and Skilling Center by donating equipment and offering training in digital marketing and financial literacy.
This support aims to increase production capacity and market access for local businesses, thereby developing economic growth at the grassroots level.
Sylvia Mulinge, the CEO of MTN Uganda, highlighted that the initiative is important for equipping entrepreneurs with digital skills essential for navigating the modern economy.
By focusing on digital transformation, MTN Uganda is not only aiding immediate business needs but also preparing communities for future technological advancements.
The extended 30 Days of Y’ello Care emphasizes MTN Uganda’s dedication to fostering education and entrepreneurship as key drivers of socio-economic development.
Through this initiative, MTN continues to play a big role in improving the livelihoods of Ugandans, particularly in rural and underserved areas of Uganda, ensuring that education and technological empowerment remain at the forefront of their community engagement efforts.
