Masturbation. The Myths, facts, Health Benefits and side effects.
    • October 6, 2023 • 1 year ago

I personally believe that this is a conversation that very many people are not ready for but we are going to have it nonetheless. When we hear people talk about Masturbation, sometimes as individuals we are very quick to raise a brow and judge them but deep down, we both have undone the act of self pleasure at a particular point in life.

Simply defined, masturbation is an act where an individual stimulates their genitals for sexual pleasure, which may or even sometimes may not lead to an orgasm.

In all honesty, there are so many things, am sure that you have heard about masturbation and most of them seem pretty bad. This is the reason why people tend to get ashamed when someone points this topic out. Most of the things you have heard however, could be false whereas a few could be realistic.

Some couples worry that their relationship must be unsatisfying if either one of them masturbates. Guess what! This is a myth. It is not always that people masturbate just because their partners do not satisfy them in bed. You will be surprised to learn that some people use masturbation to heighten their sexual performance.

This is justified by the fact that most men and women continue to masturbate either alone or together when they are in a relationship or married, and many find it an enjoyable part of intimacy in their relationship. Am sure you have come across erotic literature where the Alpha male tells his woman to “touch" herself for him, right? There, you have it.

Another myth that we have come across is that masturbation could be very harmful. I am here to tear that myth down. Masturbation is harmless. Whereas it is true that some people may experience chafing because they have a rather tender skin, this only happens if they are too rough in the process or if they have a very firm grip (the death grip) on their penis while masturbating, but this  usually heals in a few days.

    Masturbation

There is also a myth that masturbation Causes impotence  later in life because it causes low sperm count (dang). This is not even scientifically proven and yet you want to go by it? Come on.

It is a fact however that if men frequently masturbate within a short space of time, they may experience a slight swelling of the penis which is referred to as an edema but it usually disappears within just a couple of days.

In all honesty, the few side effects that come with masturbation usually affect men and that is because of the sensitivity of their genitals (I guess women are lucky creatures!)

    Many people do not even believe that there are health advantages associated with Masturbation but guess what? They exist and below are a few of them;

    Benefits of Masturbation.

    Reduces stress.

Are you having a bad day or are you stressed? The quickest way to get rid of that bad energy is via masturbation. Masturbation birthed an orgasm and would you like to know what comes with it? Having an orgasm releases endorphins which are commonly known as the feel good hormones in your brain. This effectively makes you less stressed.

    Improves sexual relationship.

Sometimes, you do not even know your sexual preferences simply because you have never tried to explore them on your own. This specifically goes for ladies because whereas gentlemen have a rather normal masturbation routine,  women have so much more to find out about themselves than they can ever imagine.

When you take time, as a woman to go solo, there are so many things you could discover that could make your intimacy a whole lot more intense and interesting. Keep at it ladies, who knows you may be able to find your g spot.

    Relieves menstrual pain.

I have heard people argue about this but it is in fact a reality and not a myth. Orgasms can be a natural painkiller so having one during the time of your menstrual periods could help you more than you could ever imagine, ladies.

    Improves sleep quality.

When you orgasm while masturbating, you release a lot of stress and tension. In the end, your body tend to relax and what better way to have a good night’s sleep?

Helps you last longer in bed.

Sometimes men don't last long in bed simply because they haven't had enough practice, either with a sex partner or alone. If you give yourself a chance to practice alone, it could shockingly improve your self control and how long you can keep that big guy up.

    Improves skin texture.

However difficult it may be to believe, orgasms cause increased blood flow to the skin, which makes your blood vessels open up. Further more, the oxytocin that is released with each orgasm can reduce inflammation, making zits and rashes less on your skin. An orgasm is that Skin therapy that most people do not tell you about.

    Masturbation

    Side Effects of masturbation.

    Guilt.

You will understand this better if you have been raised in a religious background. You have been raised to believe that self pleasure is satanic and could result into evil spirits taking over your sex life. This is also a myth that has never been proven. So it could all just be in your head.

    Disrupting daily life.

For some people, masturbation becomes a very important aspect if their lives that they can not do without and in the end, it disrupts their daily lives and day to day activities. If it gets to this level, I suggest you seek help to try and cut back on the self pleasure.

    You might hurt yourself.

This is basically for the gentlemen. Because your skin is tender and sensitive, you need to go easy on yourself. If you grip your fella too tight or even rub roughly, you are most likely to get painful bruises or wounds.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

What is the negative effect of masturbation on brain?

Compulsive masturbation leads to the brain being drained of the hormone acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter. The body replaces acetylcholine with stress adrenaline that can cause memory loss and a lack of focus. Hence, excessive masturbation can cause memory loss

What happens if you Masturbate 5 times a day?

Masturbating twice or thrice a week is a healthy practice but anything more than that can be harmful. In your case, you could suffer mental issues such as lack of concentration and physical issues such as premature ejaculation, erection issues and lack in sexual activity.

What happens if I stop releasing sperm?

The body reabsorbs sperm that does not leave through ejaculation. This has no side effects on sex drive or fertility. However, there may be possible side effects in people who delay or avoid ejaculating when sexually aroused. Epididymis hypertension is when male sexual arousal does not result in orgasm or ejaculation.

How many times should a man release sperm in a day?

There is no specific frequency with which a man should ejaculate. There is no solid evidence that failure to ejaculate causes health problems. However, ejaculating frequently can reduce the man's risk of getting prostate cancer. Ejaculation can be through having sex or masturbating a few times a day.

How many minutes does it take a man to release sperm?

That depends on many factors and can vary from time to time. Measured on a stopwatch, it takes an average of 5 to 7 minutes for a man to reach orgasm and ejaculate. But the overall range is wide, from less than one minute to over half an hour.
