Patoranking joins the list of Nigerian artists fighting police brutality
    • October 13, 2020 • 5 years ago

Forget the #BlackLivesMatter movement that sparked off after the cruel death of Black American George Floyd. There's a new movement that's taking the world by storm. #EndSARS,  a movement that sprung off in Nigeria, where civilians started protesting against the increased police brutality. For the past 2 weeks, this has been among the top 5 trending hashtags on Twitter and Facebook, not only in Nigeria but across the globe. This has seen a number of big names join the cause, including musicians, sports persons, business people to religious leaders.

The latest musician to join the movement is the DANIELLA WINE hit maker, Patoranking. He tweeted about 8 hours back saying, "Breaking in Transition.... We are fixing our country"

This however left/leaves our UG artists/celebrities at a taste. Given the high demanding kind of fans they have. Most of them have already faced the wrath of their fans, most recent one being Kireka boy, Ykee Benda. Who yesterday was in a thread of words with his followers over issues of not being able to use his influence and huge following to fight injustices in the country. Him and other socialites were criticized for failing to use their statuses to fight for "omuntu wa wansi" but rather front their individual issues. Do our artists face risk of their shows being boycotted when events resume? We'll be here to tell the stories.
