You may think that the Covid 19 Lockdown that happened in Uganda was only harsh on you and people closest to you but guess what. It was also a very challenging situation for many celebrities in Uganda, most especially the ones that had not yet established themselves quite well in Ugandan Music industry.
One of the people that this Lockdown treated harshly is none other than Pia Pounds. During an interview with Galaxy TV, the 'tupaate' hit maker mentioned the various challenges she encountered in 2020, including struggling to come up with rent money for the place she was living in and yet she had nowhere else to go given that even public transportation itself was shut down.
Pia Pounds narrates that the lockdown was majorly tough on her since her main source of income which was music performances, was affected by the restrictions that were put on nightlife and public gatherings during the complete Lockdown.
She revealed that because she was no longer performing for her fans to earn money, she had accumulated a debt of over three months’ worth of rent, and to make matters worse, her landlord was unsympathetic to her situation, demanding payment and also threatening to evict her if she did not come up with a way to get his rent money.
Pia Pounds stated that the first solution she thought about was seeking her friends out to help her with loans here and there with a promise that she would pay them back once things got better but unfortunately for her, despite seeking help from these friends in the music industry, Pia Pounds found that many of them were facing even more serious problems and were not even in any position to help her.
According to Pia Pounds, this is when she realised that it was not tough on her alone but it was also tough out there so she had to think critically if she were to pay off her debts. Pia states that she then started selling off her property in WhatsApp groups and different social media platforms.
According to Pia Pounds, she even still recalls a particular client who visited her home to purchase an item and recognized her. Pia states that this particular client even sent her a message a year later, reminding her of the tough situation she went through during lockdown and how terrible it had been.
With her fighting spirit however, Pia never stopped working hard to get back on her feet as soon as the Covid 19 regulations were eased in Uganda.
