Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea just after one full season of being in charge. It is reported he left on mutual consent.
Club sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley made the following statement;
On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.
Mauricio Pochettino also said the following;
Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club's history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.
After an inconsistent season at Stamford Bridge, an end-of-season review had long been reported.
Chelsea ensured they would play European football next season after they recorded five consecutive wins in their last matches of the Premier league and finished in sixth place.
Chelsea also reached the final of the Carabao cup and the semi finals of the FA cup under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino. Unfortunately they lost the Carabao cup after Virgil Van Dijk scored in the 118th minute to give Liverpool a 1-0 win in the Carabao cup final . They were also knocked out in the semi final of the FA Cup after a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City.
Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea just after one year into the two year deal he signed last summer. His coaching staff Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and his son Sebastiano Pochettino have left the club with him.
It is reported that the decision was made after a two day meeting between Mauricio Pochettino, Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali.
Before the final weekend of the Premier league season, Mauricio Pochettino had already had dinner with Todd Boehly on Friday.
Since Clearlake Capital-Boehly took over Chelsea in May 2022, Mauricio Pochettino is the third head coach to lose his job at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter are the other two coaches who have left Stamford Bridge during Boehly's time at helm.
Chelsea fans will be waiting to see who there new manager will be.
