Lydia Jazmine staged a successful concert at Hotel Africana, Kampala on the 1st of March 2024. As the saying goes however, bad news never misses on an occasion where good news is happening. It was reported that one person lost his life during the famous ‘First Born concert'.
Just like many concerts and events, people were very many at Lydia Jazmine's concert venue and of course as an artiste, she was glad to see such a crowd rushing about and singing along with her as they watched her perform, oblivious of the fact that a tragedy could happen right there.
With such a huge crowd, there happened to be a commotion which happened when authorities were trying to stop another musician, Grenade Official and a few of his fellows from accessing the concert venue’s VIP Section. Because of the resistance, a stampede occurred, something that led to the untimely demise of a gentleman, who has been identified as Aine Bonus.
In this particular chaos, Aine Bonus, who has been discovered to be a resident of Luzira which is located in Nakawa division, unfortunately fell down during this scuffle between Grenade Official and security and was harshly trampled on by other concert revelers.
It was reported that there were grave efforts to transport this gentleman to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but unfortunately, despite these fast efforts, it was tragically too late, and Aine succumbed to his injuries.
This particular incident was confirmed by the Uganda Police as they held a press briefing after the First Born Concert. It is indeed a tragic event, and unfortunately, his is not the first time something like this happens at concert.
We have witnessed quite a number of cases where people have lost their lives because of a few scuffles here and there at a concert venue. Remember at the start of the year 2023, a similar incident took place. It was during the New Year celebration at Freedom City, where over ten individuals lost their lives in a stampede while rushing outside to witness the fireworks that were meant to usher in the new year.
It is no doubt that there needs to be an improvement at concerts in terms of vigilance as well as security. Such incidents make it clear that there needs to be a system of improved safety measures and security should improve their vigilance towards crowd control at such events to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.
Sometimes however, it is also the fault of events promoters for picking out venues that are relatively smaller that the number of fans that often turn up for such events, something that pauses great risks on the lives of these revelers
