In a recent statement released by the office of President Yoweri Museveni, the leader addressed the nation, providing an update on his current battle with COVID-19. Despite testing positive for the virus three days ago, President Museveni assured Ugandans that his condition was not a cause for alarm.
Addressing the nation, President Museveni began by sharing details of his daily routine while managing the virus.
"Yesterday, day 2 of my corona status, I felt very sleepy around 11 am, yet I had slept well the previous night. Hence, I slept soundly up to the ninth hour of the day," he stated.
He continued by explaining that upon waking up, he felt refreshed and even wrote a speech for the Prime Minister, who would be attending an event in Luwero on his behalf.
President Museveni then proceeded to describe his sleep patterns, stating,
"I slept at the fourth hour of the night and woke up at the ninth hour of the night with a slight vague headache."
However, he emphasized that the headache subsided after drinking water, following the advice of his daughter, Patience Kokundeeka. The president added that his doctor, Dr. Diana Atwiine, had classified his case as mild and recommended conservative management using vitamin C, other vitamins, and anti-histamines.
Expressing his concern for the broader population, President Museveni urged everyone to get vaccinated and emphasized the importance of booster shots for the elderly
. "It seems immunization and the boosters for the immunization do help," he remarked, indicating that his own experience with the virus was not as severe as it could have been due to his immunization status.
The president also took a moment to reflect on the decision to make his COVID-19 status public.
"When Atwiine announced my corona-status the other day, I am the one who told her to do it. I was still busy with other issues," he explained, highlighting his commitment to transparency and setting an example for the nation.
President Museveni concluded his statement by wishing Ugandans a happy Heroes Day celebration, urging everyone to remain vigilant, adhere to health guidelines, and prioritize vaccination.
As the nation awaits further updates on President Museveni's health, his determination to keep the public informed and promote vaccination remains a cornerstone of his leadership during these challenging times.
