Just a month after the loss of former Omoro County MP aspirant Simon Toolit, National Unity Platform (NUP) has once again been hit hard.
The opposition party has lost their lead lawyer counsel Anthony Wameli of Wameli & Co. Advocates.
His death was announced by the party president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobiwine on Wednesday Afternoon via his Twitter platform.
"Very sad day! Just learnt of the untimely passing of our dear brother and Head of our Legal Team, comrade Wameli Anthony from the U.S. where he's been admitted for treatment. Details will be provided in due course. May his soul rest in eternal peace." - Bobiwine tweeted!
In late 2021, Wameli was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer by doctors at Boston Medical Centre in Massachusetts in the United States where he has been hospitalized on and off since September 2021.
Wameli was the Founder and Managing Partner, Wameli & Co. Advocates which employs 8 Advocates but has nurtured over 300 advocates through Internship and practice over the years. He has been a lawyer for close to 2 decades with a wide range of experience, He owned and run Wameli & Co. Advocates since August 2008.
He served as a Magistrate Grade 1 in the chief Magistrate of Nakasongola for about 3 years but decided to retire and embark on the practice.. He practiced general but had a bias in constitutional law, Human Rights Defense, High profile criminal Defense and Land Law
