Tottenham Hotspurs went into last night's match as the only unbeaten club in the English Premier League, and with the club's current form, all signs showed they would emerge victorious over Chelsea whose form has not impressed at all given the signings they made.
This was also Mauricio Pochetino's first return to the London stadium, having fell out with Spurs and gone to coach French side PSG, before making a return to the Premier League as the new Chelsea Head Coach.
The match began in high gear, with the hosts looking sharper through the relentless attacks from Son, Maddison and Kuluzevski. Their attacks paid as Kuluzevski's shot deflected off Levi Clowill and hit the net in the 6th minute of first half, giving Spurs the lead.
Tottenham's captain Son Ming Hun doubled the lead in the 14th minute but the goal was disallowed for offside. Raheem Sterling and Moises Caicedo's goals too were disallowed in the 21st and 28th minutes respectively after consulting VAR and thus keeping the match at 1-0
The match started taking twists when Spurs defender Romero got sent off in the 33rd minute of the game, following another VAR check on the tackle he did to Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez. The result saw Chealsea win a penalty which Cole Palmer converted in the 38th to level the match.
Things went from bitter to sour in the second half for Spurs when they were reduced to 9men after Destiny Udogie's tackle on Raheem Sterling earned him a second yellow card for the night thus getting sent off in the 54th minute.
Tottenham's goalkeeper Vicario turned into a prime sweeper but his constant saves didn't yield much and Chelsea took advantage of the 9man Spurs team. Nicholas Jackson put the Blues in front in the 75th minute after finding Sterling's cross.
Eric Dier's equalizer in the 77th minute was called off for offside by VAR and this meant Chelsea maintained their lead. Nicholas Jackson's 94th and 97th goals sealed Chelsea's win at the London stadium and also earned the Ivorian striker his first Premier League hat-trick for the Blues.
