The Deputy Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), Brig. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, highlighted the essential importance of military planning and adaptability during operations.
“Adaptability is crucial—how do you respond when the enemy fires a shot? Our VVIP operatives must be able to adjust swiftly to such situations,” he stated on October 18, 2024, at the VVIP Training School in Sera Kasenyi, where he oversaw the graduation of officers from the VVIP commander’s planning course.
Brig. Gen. Nyakikuru congratulated the officers for successfully completing their training on VVIP protection. “As soldiers responsible for the safety of the President, this course enhances your capabilities in protecting VVIPs. Well done!” he said.
He expressed admiration for their skills, particularly in shooting, which they mastered in just ten weeks. “This reflects why the UPDF chose you; your ability to absorb information is impressive,” he added.
The Deputy Commander also thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his leadership, which has transformed the army into a formidable force. “You are a valuable asset, especially at this critical time. Your education and insight will ensure you excel in your duties,” he noted.
Brig. Gen. Nyakikuru praised the training team, led by Maj. Samson Mucunguzi, for their excellent work in preparing the officers in a short timeframe. “Kudos to you, though there’s always room for improvement,” he remarked.
Col. John Bosco Asinguza, Commander of the 1 Special Force Group (1SFG), also congratulated the graduates, emphasizing their role in safeguarding the President and the nation. “Your commitment to excellence is vital in ensuring security,” he stated.
He urged the officers to apply their training to anticipate and mitigate threats to VIPs and to uphold the values of integrity and patriotism in their service.
Col. Wilson Bagonza, Commander of the 3 Special Force Group, thanked the UPDF leadership for supporting this essential training and reminded the trainees of the importance of discipline in their roles.
