With China and her dominance growing at a high speed in may African countries, Uganda inclusive, the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has moved to start teaching Mandarin, which is the official Chinese language in lower secondary.
According to Dr. Grace Baguma the Executve Director NCDC, Mandarin will be the 5th foreign language to be added to the curriculum and taught in lwer secondary alongside French, Latin, German and Arabic. "When you introduce a new subject on the curriculum, teachers are trained on how to teach that subject. Theses teachers are going to be trained on how to teach Chinese in lower secondary.
We have not been teaching Chinese in our schools because we needed to have teachers trained enough to teache the language. We want to thank the private sector institutions like Luyanzi College who have been helpful in training the teachers into teaching Chinese" She said
