Taiwan's DPP wins tightly contested presidential election.
    • January 13, 2024 • 1 year ago

    * Democratic Proggressive Party won the Taipei's presidential elections for a third time in a row after defeating oppostion parties.

    * China dismissed the party's win calling the movememt a separist force.

    * The Biden administration is yet to send a political envoy to the country's capital Taipei inorder to avert the Chinese next actions.

The Taiwanese Democratic Party remained at the helm of the country's leadership with a presidential win of the party's flag bearer William Lai who succeeded the former president of whom he was vice. The DPP now takes the third historic and consecutive win after defeating the opposition with William Lai also known as in Chinese as Ching-te set to become the islands next leader. The results arrived into the nationals and this dismissed all the Chinese war talk and showcased the bravery of the Taiwan people for they refsued to be intimidated by China.

Lai defeated the new Taipei city mayor Hou Yu-ih of the Koumintang party by just 7% of the vote where the country saw 68% of the country's population coming out to vote though more unimpressive compared to the 75% who turned out to vote in the  2020 elections. The election result msrld the DPP third consecutive win over the Koumintang ever since Taiwan started democratic governance about 30 years ago with parties retaining control for about 8 years before switching places as voter sentiments torn between two parties.

Beijing insists that the people of Taiwan are Chinese but voting for Lai signifies that they have voted to be Taiwanese and therefore should not expect any friendly and negotiable relations between the countries. The Biden administration is yet to send leaders to Taiwan to foster security methods that are to ensure the new president is safe guarded from the aggressor led by Xi Jinping who vowed to wipe out the country and reunite it the mainland China by 2049.As the year progresses elections will keep running down the months and now we head to Moscow to watch the foregone conclusion as Putin is yet to earn a  sixth term in power.
