The Catholic community in Adjumani district is mourning the untimely death of Reverend Fr. Denis Isa Iranya, the esteemed parish priest of Holy Cross Indriani Pilgrim Centre Catholic Mission. The revered clergyman passed away on Thursday afternoon at Pioneer Hospital in Arua city, where he was rushed after collapsing during a meeting.
The sad news was confirmed by Rev Fr. Ben Drici, the parish priest of Pakele Catholic parish and the secretary for Pakele Denary, who expressed deep sorrow in a statement. According to Fr. Drici, Fr. Iranya collapsed while participating in a meeting of diocesan parish priests at the Christus Center in Ediofe Cathedral, Arua city.
"He was rushed to Pioneer Hospital but shortly passed on due to acute hypertension," lamented Fr. Drici, highlighting the sudden and tragic nature of Fr. Iranya's demise.
Fr. Iranya, affiliated with the congregation of the Missionaries of Jesus the Divine Master, had previously served as the parish priest of St. Mary Assumpta Catholic parish in Oleba, Maracha district, and Pakele Catholic parish, leaving a lasting impact on the communities he served.
Phillip Inziku, a member of Oleba Catholic parish, fondly remembered Fr. Iranya as a dedicated and hardworking priest who played a pivotal role in laying a solid foundation for the development of the parish. The Christian community expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a spiritual leader known for his commitment to the welfare of the congregation.
