Last night Morley Byekwaso's boys made history in Mauritania as they hammered North Africa giants Tunisia 4:1. A hat trick from in form Derrick Kakooza and a belter from Richard Basangwa which came in the 3rd minute of the first half saw UG Hippos cruise into the AFCONU20 final.
The Hippos will play West Africa's giant Ghana on Saturday, who knocked out Morocco in a 1:0 game. This final will be a historic one, given Uganda's last highest level in football was in 1978, when Uganda cranes played Ghana in the AFCON final where the Cranes lost 2:0 to the Black stars of Ghana. Uganda will be seeking revenge on Saturday through the UG Hippos.
Last game's win was also a historic one to the Hippos coach Morley Byekwaso, who in 1997 while playing for the then KCC, lost out to Tunisia's Esperance de Tunis in a 9:1 thumping in the CAF cup semi finals, where the current Tunisia's head coach was playing for Esperance by then.
Congratulations to the young lads and we're praying that they bring the trophy home.
