Uganda Police have officially confirmed an attempted assassination on the life of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, the senior pastor of House of Prayer Ministries. The incident unfolded on Tuesday night at approximately 9 pm as Pastor Bugingo was returning home.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan police, unidentified assailants opened fire on Pastor Bugingo's vehicle, bearing the registration PRAIZ GOD, along Namungona, Zone 2, Kasubi Rubaga Division in Kampala. The attack took place at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road. The assailants swiftly fled the scene on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Despite sustaining injuries during the attack, Pastor Aloysius Bugingo managed to drive the vehicle to Mulago Hospital. Unfortunately, his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza, succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
"Currently, Pastor Bugingo is undergoing medical treatment and is under close monitoring," stated Owoyesigyire.
He also mentioned that the police discovered signs of tampering with the crime scene. However, statements from eyewitnesses have been diligently recorded, and the deceased bodyguard's body has been taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination.
In the pursuit of justice, the police are actively reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants behind the attack. The shocking incident on Tuesday night has sent shockwaves through the public, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive and those responsible for the attempted assasination.
