Singer Veronica Lugya, commonly known under her mononym Vinka has for the first time come public and shared specifics of her contract with Swangz Avenue.
In a heart-to -heart interview with 100.2 Galaxy Fm, the Bailando hit maker made a somewhat shocking revelation that her music is not entirely her own, but rather owned by Swangz Avenue.
She went ahead to make the point clear that in the event of an early departure or disagreements, she would need to repurchase her music and brand from the label in order to regain all the rights from her digital purchases, streams, performances, and more.
However, Vinka emphasized that the details of this arrangement would depend on the terms outlined in their initial agreement and contract.
The overdose recording artist mentioned that if she were to leave before her contract ends or under unfavorable conditions, the situation would be different.
On the other hand, if both parties were parting ways amicably, the label might be open to negotiating with her to ensure a peaceful separation.
In summary, Vinka acknowledged that she does not fully own her music and would have to either buy herself out from Swangz Avenue or let go of everything, depending on the terms under which she would leave.
I don’t own all my music fully. It is owned by Swangz Avenue, and if I woke up one day and wanted to walk away, then I’d either buy myself from them or let everything go depending on what terms I’d have left," Vinka said in a video clip accessed by the reporter.
Important to note is that Vinka, born on 27 June 1994, joined Swangz Avenue in February 2017. Initially a professional dancer, she collaborated with various artists like Jackie Chandiru, Sera, Maurice Kirya, and Cindy Sanyu.
Eventually, she transitioned to become Irene Ntale's manager at Swangz Avenue. In 2015, her Swangz Avenue boss encouraged her to explore singing, leading to the release of her debut single "Level" in 2016, followed by "Stylo" featuring Irene Ntale.
By 2018, Vinka secured a long-term recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment, while still being managed by Swangz Avenue. In April 2022, Vinka renewed her management deal with Swangz Avenue for an additional five years.
The announcement of this extension was made by Vinka's record label on their official Facebook page, expressing gratitude to Vinka for her continued trust in them.
