It's the 20th of January 2021, 6 days after the country went into elections for the next president and members of parliament. After casting his vote, presidential candidate and National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was escorted by the security forces to his home in Magere, Wakiso district.
Since then, Kyagulanyi and wife Barbie Kyagulanyi have not left their residence and no one is allowed to see them. A lot has happened during these six days, which have led to mixed feelings in regards to the current "house arrest" of Bobi Wine.
The security officials have publicly come out to deny that Kyagulanyi is under house arrest as claimed. They however claim that they have evidence that the Musician turned politician has plans of disrupting peace in regards to the presidential elections that saw him come second behind the incumbent president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Many people have come out to call out the act, claiming it's inhuman and against human rights. Among these is Kenyan artist Victoria Kimani, who took to her Twitter to express her solidarity and called out Africans to follow suit.
"I wish Africa would unite with Uganda the way we all did with #EndSars What is happening with Bobi Wine needs to be recognized globally. The Dictatorship in Africa is beyond Evil!." Tweeted the 35year old.
It should be remembered that Africa was painted with Green and White, which are the colors of Nigeria, during the #EndSars campaign. Let's hope Africa will "wake up."
