KAZAN, Russia | Xinhua – Chinese President Xi Jinping, speaking at the 16th BRICS Summit on Wednesday, emphasized the need for BRICS countries to pursue high-quality development and strengthen collaboration among member states.
In his address, Xi highlighted the summit's decision to invite several nations to join as partner countries, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of BRICS. He called on members to transform the multilateral platform into a key venue for solidarity and cooperation within the Global South, positioning it as a leading force for reforms in global governance.
Xi urged BRICS nations to work towards fostering peace and becoming guardians of common security. He outlined three guiding principles for conflict resolution: avoiding battlefield expansion, preventing the escalation of fighting, and refraining from provocations by any party. He stressed the importance of swiftly de-escalating the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
Additionally, Xi encouraged BRICS members to champion innovation and become pioneers of high-quality development. He advocated for establishing a green BRICS focused on sustainable development, expressing China's readiness to enhance cooperation in green industries, clean energy, and sustainable mineral resources.
The President also called for a just BRICS that leads global governance reform, urging member states to align with the rising influence of the Global South and to welcome new countries into the BRICS cooperation framework. He emphasized the need to advance membership expansion and enhance the representation of developing nations in global governance discussions.
Xi pointed out the increasing urgency for reforming the international financial system and called for strengthening the New Development Bank. He urged BRICS countries to lead efforts in aligning international financial frameworks with the evolving dynamics of the global economy.
Furthermore, he advocated for promoting peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among civilizations. In a commitment to educational collaboration, Xi announced that China will establish 10 overseas learning centers in BRICS countries over the next five years, aiming to train 1,000 education administrators, teachers, and students.
