For the past I don't know how many days, Uganda's social media has always been on fire for both good and bad reasons. From dragging celebrities, to political shaming, mention but a few.
Last night was yet another rollercoaster of insults and as the people on Twitter call it, "serving source." We all know that since they got arrested in Kalangala about two weeks ago while escorting presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Nubian Li and other NUP supporters have since then been behind bars. Yesterday him and the rest were charged for possession of ammunition!
Now, apart from being a best friend to Kyagulanyi, Nubian Li is a Ugandan musician and this right here is where "the kavuyo" comes in. Social media users have been calling out Musicians to come and condemn the act as they in huge numbers called out the immediate release of Nigerian artists Omah Lay and Tems.
Yesterday, the attacks were directed to Uganda Musicians Association(UMA) president Ykee Benda, and people called him out for going mute on the issue.
Well well, the Mpaka records CEO wasn't taking any insults and, he RETALIATED???? "You know Nubian Li is with police but ur on my thought Twitter shouting like it's me giving out bails...! You urself can't do anything about it apart from tweeting like he is locked somewhere on Twitter. Bomboclat...!" Tweeted Ykee Benda.
Thousands of abuses flew left, right and center towards the tweet but like EeZzy said, "mitima gyakaluba" indeed even Benda's heart grew harder. He kept retaliating on every tweet till the last drop.
He went on to say that Ugandans think music is a charity where fans are helping them(artists) which is wrong. It's a business like any other where one goes for their choice of preference.
"Ndowooza ky'ekyo? Now get this in your heads and understand it. To mind my business doesn't mean I don't have what to say. I care for what I care for when I care for it. I am a simple guy but if for one second you think we come from the same same womb you will be reminded" read another tweet.
