In the world of entertainment, drama is not limited to the screen or stage in choatic country like Uganda. Recently, two prominent Ugandan artists, Azawi of Swagnz Avenue and Ray G of Awesome Entertainment found themselves at the center of attention after a heated argument on stage over the order of their performances at famous comedy store Ug in Mbarara University Inn.
This has ofcourse sparked alot of criticism, stirring up discussions about professionalism and respect within the music industry.
Already established Azawi known for her hit songs and loyal fan base, and upcoming Ray G, were both scheduled to perform at Comedy store Ug. However, tensions escalated when Azawi felt being an already established Artist, Ray G was only meant to perform after her.
However, Ray G was seen confidently following Azawi from backstage clearly in total disagreement with Azawi’s decision of coming on first.
According to our inescapable Nowviba eyewitnesses and circulating video, Ray G was seen composingly pleading with Azawi to let him perform first according to the lineup.
Unfortunately Azawi insisted on performing first and even asked the audience to choose who should go first.
It couldn't settle well with Ray G who used some of his time on stage to frustratingly expres his disappointment with musicians from Kampala for consistently disrespecting regional artists.
The argument has quickly escalated into a public dispute, Brewing alot of attention and opinions on waves with fans and industry insiders expressing disappointment in Ugandan artists' behavior, highlighting the need for professionalism and respect among musicians.
Pity the Mbarara audience, who had eagerly anticipated a night of music and entertainment, found themselves witnesses to a tense argument instead. This not only dampened the mood but also raises questions about the responsibility Ugandan artists have towards their fans and the reputation of the industry as a whole.
In a different view of things, this could clearly underline the issue of ego and competition in the music industry. Uganda's industry is characterised with artists who often jostle for recognition and success ie: Sheebah vs Cindy battle. But why should personal ambitions overshadow professional conduct, yet still all musicians can navigate their careers with grace and humility, Take an example from the Nigerian Musicians.
Anyway who are we to judge during christmas time, artists are also human and immune to emotions and conflicts. It will be unrealistic to expect that all interactions will be smooth, especially in environments where egos and pressures are at play, Well focus instead should be on how Ugandan artists handle these clumsy situations and what lessons they learn from them.
I think Priscilla Zawedde alias Azawi and Muhairwe Reegan alias Ray G, as well as other Ugandan artists, should use this incident as an opportunity for immediate growth and self-reflection. I myself belive they carry the power to set an example for aspiring musicians like Fresh Kid and Kapilipiti Omubaya by simply acknowledging their mistakes and taking full responsibility for their actions.
Azawi or Ray G should come out and issue public apologies, engage in constructive dialogue with Ray G, and committe themselves to professionalism and respect in years to come. Tell me what you think in the comment section below.
