Uganda has included 44-year-old Frank Nsubuga in its national team for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B. Nsubuga, who previously played in the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, expressed his excitement about being selected again, stating, “I am happy to be given a chance to be part of the national team again.”
The tournament will take place from November 4 to 16, 2024, in Kampala and Entebbe, Uganda.
The squad, curated by head coach Abhay Sharma and the Association Selectors Committee, features a mix of seasoned players and emerging talents, including former U-19 captain Pascal Murungi.
In a leadership change, Ali Shah has been appointed as the new captain, taking over from Brian Masaba. Shah, a versatile all-rounder with seven years of experience on the national team, commented, “It is not going to be a challenging job for me. Everyone on this team knows their role and strives to execute it.”
The Challenge League B tournament serves as a crucial step toward qualifying for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Uganda will kick off its campaign against Singapore on November 6, followed by a match against Tanzania three days later. The team will also compete against Hong Kong, Italy, and Bahrain.
Prior to the tournament, Uganda will engage in three warm-up matches against Bahrain in Jinja, a town in Uganda's east.
