Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige, one of the most respected businessman in Kampala has died.
According to family sources, Kibirige, who came to be known simply as BMK passed on in a Kenyan hospital, Nairobi where he has been battling cancer.
At the time of his death, BMK was 67 years old and had been fighting cancer for the past four years.
Several prominent businessmen, women, politicians and civilians have expressed shock in their eulogies as burial arrangements kick off.
Biography and Business Empire
Born in 1953, Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige has been one of the most celebrated businessmen in Kampala and several other countries like Japan.
He started with a forty room motel in 1997. The motel quickly grew into a five star hotel and came to be known as Hotel Africana.
The hotel now has over 200 rooms and 30 serviced apartments and is situated on Kololo Hill in Kampala.
The hotel has a swimming pool, manicured gardens, a conference centre and several other luxurious amenities it has a seating of over 3,500 heads.
He was also the brain behind BMK group, a general trade and manufacturing company. Under BMK Group of companies lies Hotel Africana, BMK Group Uganda limited, BMK Group Kenya Limited, BMK Group Tanzania, Rwanda, Lusaka and Zambia.
He also owned Hotel Africana forex bureau, BMK construction leasing company based on Kigali and BMK oil equipment company in Kampala.
Aside from businesses in Africa, the tycoon had other businesses in Dubai and Japan.
Other Achievements.
Aside from his business empire, BMK was also a writer, having written "My Story of building a fortune in Africa." which he published last year.
He is also known for helping to mobilize funds to create awareness about sickle cell disease.
