During a parliamentary seating on Wednesday, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo tabled a request to the government to look into giving tax waivers to investors who would wish to inject money in sports facilities in the country.
This, according to Magogo would boost the sports fraternity as the country is preparing to co-host the AFCON27 tournament alongside Tanzania and Kenya under the PAMOJA27 umbrella. “This is the moment we feel that the equipment for sports and also the private investors who are investing in sports facilities [to benefit from such gestures] by waiving some of these taxes." Said Magogo
The Budiope Member of Parliament benchmarked his proposal to the 2007 times when Uganda hosted the CommonWealth Heads of State(CHOGM) and the government waived off tax to investors who indeed helped in the build up of CHOGM.
“When we hosted CHOGM, there were certain tax waivers that were done to ensure that the facilities are availed,” said Magogo at the floor of parliament.
Uganda, like her fellow co-hosts is preparing to showcase the best come AFCON27 and all possible solutions are very much welcome. With the National Stadium Namboole yet to be open for operations, one would believe Magogo's proposal would come in handy if approved.
