Catherine, Princess of Wales revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment with the cancer still in its very early stages.
ln a video message released on Friday, Kate said that the diagnosis came after she had undergone an abdominal surgery in January this year.
Her condition was was initially thought to be non cancerous but tests later found that cancer had actually been present.
Kate,42,had been absent from the public eye since January due to a major abdominal surgery causing wild speculation about her health to swirl.
The shock also came after King Charles lll was also diagnosed with cancer following a procedure that also revealed he had an enlarged prostrate.
Kate released a video on Friday to provide an update on her health, two months after she stepped down from public life temporarily after her intial treatment.
" ln January, l underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous, said Kate, who is married to the heir of the British throne, Prince William.
" The surgery had been successfull but tests after the surgery indicated that cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that l should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and l am in the early stages of that treatment."
She said her diagnosis had been a huge shock and that her and William were doing everything possible to process and manage this privately for the sake of their younng family.
Kate and William have three children Prince George,10, Princess Charlotte,8 and Prince Louis,5.
Keningston palace informed the royal media that Kate had been undergoing chemotherapy since late February and that she and William had waited until now to reveal her condition because Friday was the day their children began their Easter school holidays.
"It has taken me time to recover from my major surgery inorder to start my treatment. But most importantly it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is most appropriate for them and to also reassure them that am going to be OK," she said in the video message.
However Kate didnot mention what type of cancer she had been diagnosed with but preventive chemotherapy is in most times used as an adjuvant therapy to minimise the chances of cancer returning.
She had been expected to return to her official duties after Easter, but will now postpone further work until she has been cleared to do so by her medical team.
