After a Rollercoaster of back and forth regarding Minister Persis Namuganza's fate, today Parliament has finally censured her.
Namuganza, a state minister for Lands aswell as legislator for Bukono was censured by the August house over misconduct and contempt of Parliament.
Following the development, Namuganza's last chance to cabinet now falls in the hands of the President, her appointing authority - she however fully retains her position in the Parliament.
During the censure session, Parliament was presided over Deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa and 348 MPs voted in favor of the motion, while 5 voted against and 3 abstained.
On January 6th 2023, a committe that was earlier Instituted to investigate the alleged misconduct of Minister Namuganza presented its report to Parliament giving it a way forward to pass a motion for her censure, since they found that she had a case to answer.
During the plenary that saw her get censured, Minister Persis Namuganza was visibly absent from the Parliament sitting despite requirement that she must be present to defend herself.
When MPs raised concern of her absence, Deputy speaker Tayebwa that presided over the sitting ruled that the censure motion had to be handled and put away to allow Parliament attend to other important issues.
