Following the devastating Monday earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria killing many thousands of people, Ugandan government has come clean on the plight of its citizens in the affected states.
Through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a statement was released setting facts right. Unlike the misinformation that kept making rounds on various social platforms, the Ministry confirmed that only a total of three Ugandans were affected in Diyarbakr, Turkiye.
Out of the 3, one sustained injuries and is responding well to treatment in a hospital at Malatic city.
The development further trashed the rumours that Ugandan Turkey based blogger and governent critic Fred Lumbuye Kajubi had died in the earthquake!
"In addition, the Ministry wishes to further clarify that there are no reported deaths of any Ugandans and the information circulating on various social media platforms relating to the death of Mr. Fred Lumbuye as a result of this earthquake is not true, " reads the Ministry statement.
To explain how most Ugandans survived the catastrophe, the Ministry said that majority of Ugandans in Turkey reside in Ankara, Istanbul, Konya, Izmir and Antalya which cities were not affected.
In response to the video of the two Ugandan girls circulating on social media expressing distress, the Ministry said that the duo was contacted by officials of the Ugandan Embassy in Ankara and remain in constant communication to offer the required support.
