The current Miss Uganda Hannah Karema was crowned Miss Uganda 2023 in March this year. It was a very memorable moment for her as she triumphed over the other contestants. Her happiness however was short lived after she was harshly pulled back to reality with various negative comments regarding her victory.
Upon achieving this huge milestone, she received negativity and a whole lot of backlash from some Ugandans online who accused her of having received a crown that was not rightfully hers. They mentioned that according to her facial features, she is not a Ugandan but rather she is accused of being a Rwandese.
According to her, she says she has not been supported enough by Ugandans and many don't appreciate her efforts. She mentioned that this is not good because without support, all her efforts seem worthless even to the public.
"At this point, I need all the support I can get, because when you get to a point where no one is appreciating what you are doing, sometimes you get tired, no matter how passionate you are,” she said in an interview.
Even when Karema has been doing different activities across the country including encouraging young girls to stay in school and promoting menstrual hygiene in various schools, she feels her impact is very little because she lacks the right support.
