Opposition strongholds National Unity Platform (NUP) and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders have come out to share their thoughts on how the government can fight the increasing security threats in the country. This comes after the recent bombings that happened on the same day in the heart of Kampala that saw three people die on the spot and many sustain heavy injuries.
National Unity Platform spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi has emplored the government to improve living standards of police men and women so they can have themoral to perform their duties with love and patriotism other than thinking about 'kintu kidogo' all the time. Recently a photo went viral on social media that showed one of the residences of police officers and believe meyou, if one saw that photo, they'd swear it's some abandoned house but not a residence.
Chris Rubongoya, the general secretary of NUP also questioned the police over continued persecution of NUP supporters countrywide, even when they (NUP leaders) take the effort of informing the police about their meetings and radio shows prior. Police spokesperson Fred Enanga however refuted these claims and said they've never recieved any letters from NUP.
Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda who doubles as the FDC spokesperson also aired his views where he requested the government to go for a more intellectual approach with the terrorists/bombers and hold peace talks.
"I remember when we went to Sudan with Gen. Rugunda to hold peace talks with the LRA. If you can't hold peace talks with them, fight them till the last one." Said Hon. Ssemujju. He went on to call upon all Ugandans to continue being vigilant, especially as the festive season draws nearer. We hope the people responsible take note of the advice. as we also work on our individual security.
