The Primary Leaving Examinations (P.L.E) which we're done in March this year have been released earlier today by the minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni in a virtual ceremony.
Out of 749,761 learners who registered to sit for the exams countrywide, 736,742 were able to sit the exams at 14,300 centers. 2020 saw a drop in the percentage of absentee by 0.1% compared to 2019.
Universal Primary Education (UPE) had the biggest percentage of candidates, 68.4%(513,085) while private schools had only 31.6%(236,677) candidates. English and Social Studies were the most performed subjects as Mathematics was worst done.
Boys outcompeted the girls in performance as they won in Social Studies, Mathematics and Science. The girls excelled in English more.
The poor performance was attributed to the coronavirus pandemic which saw closure of learning instituted and the lockdown which lasted almost a year. The minister warned parents against staging parties to celebrate success of their children because this will risk people contracting the Corona virus.
Do you have a daughter/son/sister/brother /niece/nephew who sat for P.L.E? How did they perform?
