Parliament gives Foreign Affairs minister a week to present way forward on Ugandans stuck in Afghanistan
    • August 18, 2021 • 4 years ago

Yesterday, the ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country was to bring in 2000 Afghanistan nationals as refugee, as a request by the USA, following the political unrest in the country.

While this news stirred mixed feelings among Ugandans, some faulting government for wanting to play the  "good samaritan" card on the face of Westerners yet the natives are choking on poverty and others, especially the 'sons of Adam' have since been so excited to welcome the Afghanistan refugee women and are ready to 'show them areound' the pearl of Africa.

However, while such preparations are underway, there many Ugandans who're currently stranded in the now Taliban ruled country. During today's parliament sitting, Bulisa Woman MP Hon. Norah Bigirwa raised an issue, where she requested the minister of Foreign Affairs to tell the August house if they have plans of bringing back those Ugandans.

"Madam speaker, there many Ugandans currently stuck in Afghanistan and it is my request that as the Foreign Affairs ministry declared their acceptance to bring in Afghanistan  nationals as refugees, they also think of those Ugandans." said Hon. Bigirwa.

In her response, deputy speaker, Hon. Anite Among ordered Hon. Okelllo Oryem who is the minister of Foreign Affairs to present to parliament a plan on how they are going to help those Ugandans, in a period of 7days.

While we await Hon. Oryem's response, you who's reading this, which side are you in all this?
