Phil Foden has exposed Pep Guardiola's tactical adjustment where he told the English footballer to change sides with Bernardo Silva in which led to the second goal of the Manchester Derby
Phil Foden was the player of the match for the Manchester Derby yesterday (Sunday), scoring two goals in the 56' minute and 80' minute respectively in which Manchester City successfully earned the three points.
This successful win sees Manchester city in the second position of the Premier League which leaves them one more point to topple off the table leaders Liverpool after game week twenty-seven of the 2023/24 campaign.
The England international's two goals in the second half were assisted by Rodri and Julian Alvarez in which one he scored it from twenty -five yards which out cancelled Marcus Rashford's first half goal end also added on the second one in the 80' minute into the bottom-corner.
While his first goal came after cutting in from the right flank - where he started the game - Foden's second surprisingly came from the left-hand side of the penalty area.
Communicating to the press after their win, Phil Foden proved that Pep Guardiola had told him to switch flanks with Bernardo Silva late in the game - a decision which led to the vital second goal:
"The manager said switch sides with Bernardo [Silva]", said Foden. “I switched and not long after I managed to score the second goal.
“The manager knows best and I listened to him and it paid off in the end.”
The Stockport-born wide midfielder also took the time to express how much scoring a brace in the Manchester derby meant to him, revealing:
“I understand what it means for the fans in the derby at the Etihad. It means everything. To score as well is even better but it was about the win today.
“That’s my aim. To turn up in the big games, that’s what I want to do and I think this season I’m proving that by putting performances like that in. So yeah I’ll keep working hard.”
Besides that, Manchester City will be back in action on Wednesday this week where they will host Copenhagen in the Champions League at Etihad Stadium for their round of sixteen in Manchester.
Not only that, Manchester City will again battle with their biggest rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday 10th in Premier League for game week twenty- eight.
