Uganda Police blocked a prayer meeting organized by members of the United Forces of Change at Sharing Hall in Nsambya, Kampala on Friday afternoon!
Members of the group, led by former Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) and National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu together with their supporters were disappointed by Police that stopped their prayers and later turned violent.
According to one of the videos making rounds on social media, a police officer is being restrained by a colleague from shooting at an opposition supporter following chaos from the entire saga!
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango says the prayers were blocked because the organisers did not seek permission from authorities.
Citing terrorism threats in the country, he further noted that it was agreed upon that all public events in the country must be cleared by the Inspector General of Police in accordance with the Public Order and Management Act.
With the prayer days cancelation, the big question many members of the United Forces of Change kept asking is - When did Praying to God become a matter of seeking permission from Police?
Drinking the entire saga, Kyagulanyi took to his social media platforms to airport his dissatisfaction saying - "We're under attack. The military and police have intercepted us on our way from the blocked prayers. They're arresting comrades. We shall overcome! We shall not give up."
