Arsenal go back to the top of the Premier League table after defeating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford. The goal was scored by Leandro Trossard in the 20th minute of the first half after Kai Havertz burst forward on the right flank before finding time and space to pick out the Belgian who had a simple job of tapping in the ball past Andre Onana.
This is Arsenal's second league win against Manchester United at Old Trafford since 2006. After securing the win against Manchester United, this will ensure the title race goes on till the final match day.
Mikel Arteta said the following in the post match interview with Sky Sports news;
We know the difficulty of winning a match at Old Trafford. We started really well and got the goal, but the goal may have hurt us. We were not progressive with our play after and gave alot of balls away. We defended so well. We didn't concede much, and that is why we got the result. The attitude of the whole team. The discipline. A lot of good habits when it comes to defending. It was a collective win. We are really happy to win. We wanted to play better especially in the second half. The difficulty was high-stakes. You don’t have margin of error. You play big teams who want to make it difficult for you.[It is the] last game now in front of our people. Our families will be there Lets live one of the most beautiful days we have ever lived together.We need that result in order to achieve it [Spurs beating City]. It is football, so there is always possibilities.
The goal scorer, Leandro Trossard also had a few words to say;
We had only one job today, and that was winning. It wasn’t the prettiest one, but we stuck to it in the end.We were looking for the second goal. If it didn’t come, it was going to be a tough second half, especially here with the atmosphere. This team can hurt you in different ways.It is only one objective [now], and that is to win the league. We have done our job today. Hopefully we have a great win next week. We can only hope [that City stumble].
Kai Havertz also spoke with Sky Sports news and said the following;
Yeah, very important [to get the three points]. I think to play here is always tough. I think we prepared for the game very well. We didn’t play our best game, but we needed those three points.It feels nice to go in every game and look to win. City are always keeping the pressure [on us]. It is so nice to be in that race. Every week you have to play at your best.Every time you win, it feels good. We have one more [match] next week, but we have the fans and club behind us, so hopefully it goes well.I looked to my right and saw him at the six-yard line [Casemiro] and called Ben [White]. He saw me straight away, and then it was a one-on-one situation. Then this guy scored [Trossard].I am going to be the biggest fan of Tottenham ever.
All eyes are on North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur who need to defeat Manchester City in order for Arsenal to stand a chance of winning the Premier league title for the first time in 20 years. Spurs' Champions League hopes will also be on the line because they need to win both of their last premier league matches while hoping for Aston Villa to lose theirs if they want to qualify for the Champions league.
Manchester United's Champions League hopes faded away a long time ago and their chances of qualifying for the Europa League or Conference League through the Premier League look to be very slim. Manchester United's best chance of qualifying for European Football next season is by defeating Manchester city in the FA Cup final to earn them an automatic spot in the UEFA Europa league.
Manchester United are to play Newcastle United next in the Premier league who are currently unbeaten in their last three matches.
