Today, Thursday March 23 2023 marks the start of the Holy Month of Ramathan for all the Muslims across the globe.
The Holy month which lasts between 29 days and 30 days comes off as the Nineth month of the Islamic Calender - beginning and ending with the crescent moon appearance.
Although Muslims expected to start fasting from Tuesday, official communication from Saudi Arabia indicated that the crescent had not been sighted not until Sheik Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, the Director Sharia - Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) confirmed today as start of Fasting.
In this entire month, fasting is mandatory for all healthy adult Muslims. The Eldery, children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers sbd travellers are the only categories exempted from fasting.
Whilst fasting in Ramathan, Muslims practice self-restraint. They refrain from food, drink and sexual activities between dawn and dusk. They also refrain from all forms of immoral behavior including impure thoughts.
