Jeff Bezos the richest man in the world currently valued at USD 215 billion as of June 2020 blasted off to space today.
He left earth for space along with other 3 colleagues making them 4 in total all travelling in his spaceship called, New Shepard.
The colleagues included, his brother Mark Bezos, a teenager Oliver Daemen and an 82-year old woman, Wally Funk. They were all properly trained at Blue origin's facility in Texas for 14 hour periods spanning 2 days, last weekend.
This was the very first time the spacecraft was going to carry humans (crew) aboard it after over 8 successful test flights with the first non-crewed test flight taking place in 2015.
How long was his flight
The flight to space was only a meagre 10 minutes and 10 seconds which left many people around the world hugely disappointed.
Unlike the usual spaceflights that last for many days, Jeff Bezos and his fellow crew only had less than 2 minutes to enjoy the view from space.
The New Shepard capsule they travelled in reached a maximum altitude of about 107 kms, slightly above the 100 kms internationally recognised boundary of space or where space starts from as you may want to say.
Jeff Bezos reacts to the short space trip
The billionaire said he felt so normal while experiencing zero gravity in space which indirectly means space is overrated.
Although it was normal to him, seeing the earth from the spaceship was an entirely new thing for him and this one didn't feel normal.
He said the earth's atmosphere looks very fragile and it reminds him of what other astronauts always said about it when he read or watched their interviews.
It's from here that he concluded, that we as human beings need to protect it in the best way possible because its the only planet in our solar system that is good enough for us.
What next after this trip
Well.. Bezos considering the fragile atmosphere of the earth he just saw some hours back, he said we need to take all heavy industries out of this world to other planets in order to protect the atmosphere whose damage has caused adverse climate change.
He further said, it is the duty of the current generation to prepare a solid road map to space in order for the future generations to take it up from there and now that he has seen what space looks like, he is more motivated than ever to be apart of the build-up of the plan.
Reactions to his flight
Many people say that because of his short flight that lasted only 10 minutes, they don't believe the man went to space and have rubbished all his achievements today.
They say, that time is too small to be in space and some have created jokes that the billionaire instead went up so high but not to space.
Others criticised his flight saying he financed it using money earned from oppressing his workers at Amazon who allegedly are paid very low wages.
